Château de Versailles magazine is devoting its fifty-first issue to the workers, craftsmen and employees who made Versailles what it is today: the indispensable people.

The list of people who have created and then renewed the Palace of Versailles is a long one. Leaving aside the kings themselves (starting with Louis XIII himself), and even the ministers and architects, there is in fact a whole battalion of little hands – servants, servants and agents – who have built, maintained and brought the estate to life over the centuries. Without them, nothing that exists today would be as we know it. The sacrifice made by the workers and the time devoted by the various employees meant that the wishes of monarchs and heads of state could be passed on to subsequent generations.
