From her arrival in the Palace as wife of the royal heir in May 1770, to her forced departure in October 1789, the queen shaped Versailles in her image. Sensitive to fashion and the expressions of the pre-Romantic movement, as well as being extremely extravagant, she invented an art of fine living that was both intimate and sumptuous, drawing on the work of the greatest artists of her time.
