This silk stole is decorated with cornflowers, a common wildflower.

Cornflowers began to appear in decorations starting in 1772. Marie-Antoinette loved them and made bouquets of them in her Hamlet. The Sèvres and Meissen manufactures took up this pattern and added bouquets of roses, the Queen’s emblematic flowers. Very quickly, this pattern could be found on decorative fabrics.
