The Count of Artois, prince and patron of the arts
Exhibition catalogue
16,00 €
From November 14, 2025, to March 2, 2026, the exhibition “The Count of Artois, Prince and Patron” at the Château de Maisons offers a fascinating insight into the youth of Louis XVI’s brother and future Charles X, from his birth to his departure into exile in 1789. Through around a hundred works—paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures, furniture, and objets d’art—the exhibition reveals little-known facets of this prince, collector, future king, and last owner of the Château de Maisons under the Ancien Régime.
The prestigious collections of the Palace of Versailles, enriched by loans from major institutions such as the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée Carnavalet, evoke the patronage and artistic heritage of the Count of Artois. The exhibition also highlights his relationship with architecture and his taste for the decorative arts. It takes place in the majestic setting of the Château de Maisons, a masterpiece of the Grand Siècle, acquired by the Count of Artois in 1777.
