“Louis XIV” Medal – Arthus-Bertrand


This medal represents, on the obverse side, the portrait of King Louis XIV with the inscription LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS (Louis the Great, Most Christian King), and on the reverse side, the equestrian statue of the King on a pedestal with the inscription OPTIMO PRINCIPI (To the Greatest of Princes). It is a replica of a medal engraved by Jean Mauger in 1699 for the inauguration of the equestrian statue on the Place Louis le Grand.
