Marie-Antoinette Secret Necklace

The medallion, which appeared in antiquity, is worn first as an amulet, which protects its holder. Towards the end of the 16th century, the medallion lost its mystical power: the lucky charms it contained were replaced by hand-painted portraits, locks of hair of a loved one or missing person, sometimes even poison. The medallion becomes a romantic jewel: visible to all, it contains secrets known only to its wearer.

Les Néréides Paris has created for the RmnGP a secret medallion inspired by the personality of Marie-Antoinette. Decorated with her monogram on a blue background, a colour that the Queen chose in 1787 to redecorate her boudoir in the Petit Trianon, it represents the rigid side of life at court. Once open, the medallion reveals finely chiselled country flowers with a heart decorated with rhinestones and symbolises the Queen's quest for simplicity and escape.
