In Greek mythology, Apollo, the god of peace and the arts, was represented in the form of a Sun. Often worshipped, sometimes adored, always glorified, the Sun is humanity’s indispensable source of life. Louis XIV, protector of the arts and enlightened lover of music and dance who reigned over all things, chose it as his emblem and his nickname, the Sun King, entered the history books. The Sun can be seen everywhere in the decoration of the apartments at the Palace of Versailles. It holds a central place in portraits and royal emblems.
