An exceptional candlestick inspired by the 18th century

The Palace of Versailles and Mathieu Lustrerie teamed up to produce a candleholder inspired by the “King’s torch”. The initial model, with its ribs and round scrolled base, was adopted by the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne in the second half of the 18th century, and from 1752 was used in all the royal residences. It was equally put on tables, in the bedrooms or bathrooms and used for playing times.

Unique know-how at the service of creativity

Mobilizing the ancestral skills of chandelier craftsmen, each bronze piece is sand-cast, polished, then chiselled to reveal the twists. The finishes – gold, silver, champagne or gun barrel – bring a touch of modernity to this unique object, numbered and stamped with a royal crown, the distinctive sign of this collection. To meet contemporary needs, the torch is battery-operated and features a patented electric candle that restores the warmth of a real flame.

A shared history that goes on

Mathieu Lustrerie, a French family-run business, has been restoring antique chandeliers since 1948, perpetuating the skills of 18th century master bronzemakers. Its history intersects with that of the Palace of Versailles, when the chandeliers in the Hall of Mirrors were restored in 2007. Today, Mathieu Lustrerie’s workshops produce around ten models, which adorn the palaces of Versailles and Trianon.
