"Versailles" elegance

These cufflinks represent the key to Louis XV's cylinder desk.

Designed by Jean-Henri Riesener for the king in the 1760s, this desk is exceptional for the refinement of its inlay work, the quality of its bronze decoration and above all for the ingeniousness of its mechanism: it is closed with a key (the one copied on the cufflinks) but is opened by pressing a button. This desk is exhibited in the inner room of the King's small apartment in the Palace of Versailles.

These cufflinks, 19mm in diameter, have a clasp. They are sold as a pair in a black box lined with beige felt. This pair is one of a limited series of three cufflinks designed exclusively for the Palace of Versailles. You will find the other two of the limited series in the on-line Boutique.
