Marie-Antoinette Tapestry Cushion

This square cushion was inspired by a detail on the head board of Marie-Antoinette’s bed. It reproduces the design on the Queen’s quilt (bedspread), the only item that came down to us after the Revolution.

In the 17th century, there was a summer decoration and a winter decoration for the State Apartments. Twice a year, the fabrics were removed and replaced. In the winter, the walls were covered with velvet and, in summer, with lighter fabrics. This changeover made it possible to take good care of the precious fabrics and ensure better conservation.
